Hi!
It’s me again, Maja!
I am a European Solidarity Corps volunteer at the Slovene Philanthropy in Logatec, at their Daily center for migrants. Here I help with facilitating various workshops, from cooking and singing, to children’s workshops at the migrant shelter in Logatec.
Each and every activity is different, and helps me build a wide range of skills. Through volunteering I learned that your willpower is more important than your “skills”. When you’re a volunteer, you learn how to improvise unlike ever before, and you will be put in situations beyond any expectations. The power of wanting to help alone is more than enough!
Throughout my volunteering here I also had the opportunity to experience two other locations of Slovene Philanthropy: Metlika and Maribor. It was really humbling to see how SP takes up challenges and needs of different parts of Slovenia, making me appreciate this kind of work even more … and, even though there are different needs and different kinds of help needed in other parts of Slovenia, the energy of the Slovene Philanthropy is always just as inspiring.
My next stop being Murska Sobota, I’m excited to see what new I will learn about volunteering and myself there 😃
